Barack Obama and family to swap White House.

Where to go after living at the world's most famous address for eight years? It appears that an 8,200-square-foot house in the upscale Washington DC neighborhood of Kalorama is the answer.

When the Obamas leave the White House in January they will lease a 1928 mansion featuring nine bedrooms and eight-and-a-half bathrooms, Politico Playbook has reported.

At the end of Mr Obama's second term in office the first family will lease the home reportedly owned by Joe Lockhart, former White House press secretary in the Bill Clinton administration who has recently accepted a top job with the NFL in New York, a source told the media outlet.

Situated on about a quarter acre in the Washington DC neighborhood of Kalorama, the property was last sold in May 2014 for $5,295,000 (£3,6 million) according to data on Zillow, which also notes that it has a two-car garage and a gated courtyard for eight to ten vehicles.

The luxurious home features spacious rooms with hardwood floors, a gourmet kitchen with marble countertops and a wine cellar.

Mr Lockhart and his wife, Giovanna Gray Lockhart, an editor at Glamour magazine, would not comment on the matter. The White House has also declined to comment.

In March the president revealed that the the first family, who lived in Chicago before moving to Washington DC when he took office in 2009, would remain in the capital until his younger daughter Sasha finishes high school.

"We're going to have to stay a couple of years in DC probably so Sasha can finish," he said. "Transferring someone in the middle of high school? Tough," he said.

The president said that his plans beyond Sasha's graduation weren't clear.

"We haven't figured that out yet," he said when asked whether he would return to Chicago, where he lived before becoming president, or Hawaii, where he was born.

During his final year as president, Mr Obama consulted with a wide range of formal and informal advisers about life after the presidency, which will begin on January 20, 2017, when he is still just 55 years old, according to the Miller Centre.

During his last White House Correspondents' Dinner the president appeared in a comedy skit that showed him struggling to figure out how to spend his time once that time comes.
